Many may wonder who the Match Analyst is and what his role in the sport of soccer consists of. The Match Analyst is a figure able to combine technological and soccer knowledge, with the advent of modern soccer and all the technologies that clubs have available today, this very special area of work was born
.The Match Analyst is for all intents and purposes a collaborator of the coach, at the level of an assistant coach or a goalkeeping coach. The analyst performs a job of analyzing images from which multiple data are extrapolated, the analyst studies the current opponent (what is called team studio), specific games (match studio) but also the attitude of individual players during games and during training sessions. Through the use of software that allows you to study the videos of the various games, they must meet the needs of the technician on duty, supporting the work with specific relationships that facilitate the general preparation of the next match, the work on the field and also the team's tactical system
.Match Analysis is nothing more than the objective (and not emotional, as can be that of coaches) analysis of everything that happens on the field both in training and in the game, supported by technological tools that generate numbers.
It is thought that the match analysis was born in the late 1950s in England with Charles Reep, the first coach who began to collect videos of the British first division to analyze the tactical attitude of the teams and try to establish if there was a relationship between the number of passes completed and that of the goals scored.
Valeri Lobanovski was the first to introduce the use of computers in statistics applied to soccer, in addition to Arrigo Sacchi, to whom we owe the constant and methodical use of videos in the preparation of the match.
Technological progress has evolved to this day with the sport of soccer becoming increasingly “television”, a factor that has allowed technicians from all over the world to have on their PCs all the information necessary to better face their opponents by studying their statistics.
