
The first Rugby World Cups were established for the first time in 1985 and had their first edition in 1987 in New Zealand. In the first edition, the hosts All Blacks won in the final played in Auckland with France. The second edition took place in 1991 in the country from which the sport of rugby was born, in England. It was Australia that won the Twickenham final against the English hosts and in the presence of Queen Elizabeth. The third edition of the Rugby World Cup was held in 1995 in South Africa with the Springboks admitted to the Tournament for the first time. In Johannesburg, in front of the president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela, it was South Africa that triumphed in the final against the All Blacks favorites. In 1999, the edition was held between Wales, England, Ireland, Scotland and France. In the final of the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Australia won the final against France

In 2003 it was Australia's turn to host the World Cup, a trophy that was awarded for the first and only time so far to a European, England the winner over the hosts of Australia. In 2007 it was France's turn to host the event, the final in Paris smiles at South Africa who raised the cup against England. In 2011 the competition returned to New Zealand and the All Blacks will once again win the final against France, once again in Auckland. In 2015 the world championship event stopped again in England, in Tuckenham the final was between All Blacks and Australia, the New Zealanders won for the third time. Finally, in 2019, the Rugby World Cup landed for the first time on the Asian continent, in Japan. South Africa won for the third time, beating England in the final

The next edition of the Rugby World Cup will take place in France from September 2023.
