The close scrum represents one of the most important static phases in the game of rugby. This is a phase of conquest, a test of technique and strength between the 8 forwards of each team. Often the course of this fascinating phase of the game determines the balance of the match. It is called a scrum when a 'forward' occurs, when the ball is unplayable, when the ball comes out of the dead ball line, when the ball comes out directly from the return soccer, both from midfield and from 22 meters, in all these cases the scrum will be in favor of the team that has not committed the offence. The team in possession of the oval can choose to play the close fray when it has a direct and indirect free kick in favor.
Participants: The first 8 men from each team participate in the scrum, i.e. those who wear the number 1 to 8 jersey.
Roles: the first line consists of two pylons (numbers 1 and 3) and a hooker (number 2), these at the time of engagement, will have direct contact with the opposing fray with their shoulders and neck. The second lines (numbers 4 and 5) will be tied together behind the first line while the third lines (numbers 6, 7 and 8) will push on the two pylons, while the number 8 is positioned behind the two second lines as the
most backward player in the package.Commands: The engagement of the two scrum packs is regulated by the referee via call: Basses, the first lines must be lowered. League, the two pylons must tie the shirt of the opposing pylon with their left hands (the left pylon) and right (the right pylon). Go, the two melee will engage. Once the fray according to the referee is stable then the medino can insert the oval in the center of the fray, at that moment any scrum can advance and the hooker must touch the ball heeled. At that point the ball will be playable once it reaches number 8 who can decide whether to leave the ball to the median, start again or continue the push to advance.
This is a very delicate phase of the game and very difficult to referee. Over the years, World Rugby has continued to change rules in this context so as to preserve the health of the players and speed up the game
